Nine-piece band Gentleman's Dub Club bringing dub, ska and roots reggae live to Chalk.
Gentleman's Dub Club are playing Chalk on Saturday 12 December, bringing their dub, ska and roots reggae to Brighton. It's a nine-piece band, and they've spent two decades at the forefront of the UK's dub and reggae scene.
They started in Leeds back in 2006 as an eight-piece ensemble in a Headingley basement. From there they grew into an internationally touring outfit, known for a high-output studio discography and a live show that bridges the gap between traditional roots reggae and modern bass music. Their discography includes albums like FOURtyFOUR, Big Smoke, Dubtopia, Lost in Space and Down to Earth.
Live, they're known for a high-energy performance that combines tight grooves and a heavyweight sound, often ending in a frenzied mosh pit they describe as reminiscent of a mid-80s ska night. Live effects and mixing deliver a crystal-clear sound, backed by the band's larger-than-life stage presence. They've become festival favourites, playing major events like Glastonbury and Boomtown.
