Lavender

Lavender play The Green Door Store on Wednesday 18 November, their only Brighton date that autumn. They're a London duo, and the set will run from 19:30 to 23:00.

They work in indie-folk, and the two words that come up most when they're described are atmospheric and genre-bending. The atmospheric side is the easier one to pin down: it's the kind of sound that takes up a fair bit of room, with a focus on texture and space rather than just a melody over a beat. The genre-bending part is where things get a bit more open. Indie-folk is the starting point, but they don't keep it strictly within those lines, so you'll hear them pull in sounds from outside the folk tradition and let them sit alongside the acoustic side of things.

Because they're a duo, it's a relatively stripped-back setup on stage. That's where the atmospheric side comes through most clearly — with just two people, there's more room for the quieter moments to land and for the textures to be heard. It's the sort of thing that works well in a room like The Green Door Store, where you can actually hear the details rather than having them drowned out.
