A theatre workshop for adults exploring the ensemble number One Day More from Les Misérables with a creative twist, encouraging personal interpretation and bold narrative choices.
The Portsmouth Players are running a musical theatre workshop called Reimagining One Day More! at The Barn Studio Theatre on Sunday 28 June, from 13:30 to 15:30. It's built around 'One Day More', the big ensemble number from Les Misérables, and the whole point is to take it in a different direction. Rather than sticking to the traditional staging, the session is about exploring new dynamics, personal interpretations and bold narrative choices. You'll work on acting through song, fleshing out a character and experimenting with how the piece is put on its feet.

There is one bit of homework: you need to learn a single vocal line from one of the characters before you arrive. You can pick from Jean Valjean, Javert, Marius Pontmercy, Cosette, Éponine, Enjolras, Monsieur Thénardier or Madame Thénardier. The organisers are clear that anyone of any age or gender can choose any character, so you're welcome to take on a role you wouldn't normally be cast in. It's open to adults over 18, and they're welcoming everyone from experienced performers to people who've never stepped on a stage but fancy a go at musical theatre.
The workshop is part of the The Barn Studio Theatre Open Weekend, which marks the centenary of The Portsmouth Players, the city's oldest theatre company. The rest of the weekend is packed with other things to do: musical theatre dance workshops, costume exhibitions, access to a hundred years of company archives and a series of performances. If you're into the theatre scene here, it's a good chance to see how the company has run over the last century.
The workshop runs from 13:30 to 15:30 on Sunday 28 June at The Barn Studio Theatre, Milton Park, Milton Road, PO4 8PR, and it's free to attend.
