A hands-on workshop to design and print a one-page zine using the RISO printer, covering zine culture and analog printing techniques.
Thin Ice Press is running a One Page Riso Zine Workshop on Sunday 12 July, from 10:00 to 13:00. It's a morning session at their York centre for print on Peasholme Green, and the whole point is to take a single sheet of paper and turn it into a finished, multi-page zine using their RISO printer.

If you've never come across RISO, it's a type of digital printing that works a bit like screen printing, known for its bright, flat colours and a distinct, slightly grainy look. Over the course of the morning, you'll design a one-page zine in two colours, and you'll get a run of ten copies to take home with you. The session is led by North or Nowt, who'll be on hand to help you work through the design.
It's not just about the printing, though. They'll walk you through a bit of zine culture and the history of RISO, then get into the practical side: how to design specifically for the medium and how to fold that single sheet into an eight-page zine. The one-page format is sometimes called a 'hot-dog book', and the folding part is where the single sheet actually becomes a proper little publication.
No previous experience is necessary, and all the equipment and materials are provided, so you don't need to bring anything but yourself. It's an adult workshop, and they suggest arriving five minutes before the start. The cost is £60, which includes your ten copies.
