A family-friendly event celebrating Yorkshire Day with a Yorkshire market, seaside-themed funfair attractions, a giant pop-up sandpit, and a seagull trail through the city centre.
Seaside Fun & Yorkshire Day Market takes over York City Centre from Thursday 30 July to Sunday 2 August, a few days of street celebrations built around Yorkshire Day. It's a family-friendly one, so it works as well for a wander with the kids as it does for a proper day out in the city.

The market is the heart of it, set up on Parliament Street with local traders and produce from across the region. Around that, the 'Seaside Fun' theme spills out into the streets: there's a seagull trail to follow that leads you through to Shambles Market, and traditional seaside fairground rides will be set up in St Sampson’s Square and Parliament Street. For the smaller ones, there's a pop-up giant sandpit and face painting, and the food court at Shambles Market stays open throughout the event, so you can grab something to eat between the stalls and the rides.
It's all in the city centre, so it's easy to drop in and out of whenever suits you. If you're coming from further afield, Visit York recommends popping into their information centre for local tips and the Visit York Pass, which covers other attractions around the city. One thing to keep in mind: the day before it all kicks off, on 29 July, there's the York Makers Market & NMTF Young Trader Showcase over at Shambles Market, so if you're in town early, that's a good way to start the celebrations.
As for the cost, the event is held in public streets and squares, so there's no ticket to get in. You'll just pay for whatever you decide to do on the day—the fairground rides and the market stalls are separate. It runs from 30 July through to 2 August, across the city centre.
