Community car boot sale event at York Racecourse, one of the largest in the area, with free admission for the public.
York Racecourse Car Boot Sale is back at York Racecourse on Saturday 4 July. It's one of the biggest car boots in the area, run by K&J Brown Promotions, and it's part of a long season that kicks off on Saturday 28 March and keeps going every Saturday until 31 October. There are a few gaps when the racecourse is actually being used for racing — 23 May, 13 and 27 June, 11 and 25 July, 22 August, and 10 October — but 4 July falls right in the middle of the run.

It's a family event, open to everyone. The whole point is the same as any good car boot: sellers turn up with things they no longer want and lay them out to sell, and buyers spend the morning rooting through it all. If you're going as a seller, you'll want to get there early — the advice is to arrive between 7:00 and 7:30 to get your spot sorted before the crowds turn up. The sale itself wraps up at 13:00, and all sellers need to have cleared out and left the site by 14:00, so it's a morning and early afternoon affair rather than a full day.
For the public, admission is free, and there's free car parking from 8:00 onwards. The racecourse is at York YO23 1EX, with easy access from the M1 and the A1, so it's straightforward to get to whether you're coming from within the city or driving in from further afield. If you're just browsing, arriving after 8:00 means you can park up for free and spend the morning hunting for a bargain.
