Major running festival in Plymouth featuring a half marathon, 10k and a primary school challenge, attracting over 10,000 participants.
Britain's Ocean City Running Festival returns to Plymouth Hoe Promenade on Sunday 16 May 2027, and it's the biggest running event in Devon. It's not just one race, but a whole day of them running together, so there's something to get stuck into whether you're a seasoned club runner or just fancy a morning out by the water.

The main draw is the Plymouth Half Marathon, a full half marathon for those who want to put in the miles. If that feels like a bit much, there's the Plymouth 10k, which is a more manageable distance for a Sunday morning. And for the youngest ones, there's the Primary School's Challenge, a race specifically for primary school children, so it's a family affair rather than just a solo effort. Between the three, you've got a half, a 10k, and a kids' race all happening on the same day.
It's a big operation, too. More than 10,000 people take part, with around 30,000 spectators lining the route to cheer them on, so the atmosphere on the Hoe is a good part of the experience. It's open to runners of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to experienced club athletes, and the Primary School's Challenge means it's as much for the kids as it is for the adults.
It's a paid event, with entries starting from ยฃ16.00. The whole thing takes place on Sunday 16 May 2027 at Plymouth Hoe Promenade, PL1 2NY.
