If you're not familiar with the story, it follows the final days of Jesus' life, told from the perspective of Judas. The score is built around a few of the big numbers you've probably heard before: 'I Don't Know How to Love Him', 'Gethsemane', and the title track, 'Superstar'. It's a sung-through show, so the music carries the whole thing from start to finish.
Behind the scenes, the production is directed by Tim Sheader, with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt. The Mayflower describes it as 'a gorgeous, thrilling, heavenly musical'. Ryder is the only member of the cast announced so far, with the rest of the company still to come.
Tickets start at £25, and there are discounts for members, groups of 10 or more, and school groups. It's recommended for ages 10 and up, so it's one that works for a family outing as much as for anyone who just likes music and theatre. The run is ten days long, from 1 September to 11 September 2027, at the Mayflower Theatre.
