Deacon Blue have been around for forty years, formed by Ricky Ross and Dougie Vipond in Scotland. The set will draw from a long catalogue, with songs like 'Real Gone Kid', 'Dignity', 'Chocolate Girl', 'Wages Day' and 'Fergus Sings The Blues' among the ones they'll be playing. It's a band that's stayed together across four decades, so the songs they're playing now come from a very different place than the ones they started with.
Opening for them are The Lightning Seeds, the Liverpool indie outfit known for 'Pure', 'Lucky You' and 'The Life of Riley'. They've spent their career in a similar bracket to Deacon Blue — bands with a long run of singles that most people recognise even if they've never followed every record. Having them both on the same bill means the whole night stays in that same territory, rather than one act feeling like a warm-up for the other.
Guildhall Square is in the middle of the city's cultural district, and the Southampton Summer Sessions are a series of concerts held there throughout the season. This one is on Saturday 28 June, and it's a ticketed event, so you'll need to book in advance.
