The new record marks a change in how they work. Bassist Jack Smith describes their first two albums as "essentially computer records," and this one is the first time the four of them have written and recorded together in the same room. They spent five months on it without interruption, something they describe as "freedom" and "everything I've ever wanted from being in a band."
Yard Act is a Leeds quartet: Joe Widdop on vocals and guitar, Jack Smith on bass, Ben Baggott on drums, and Will Smith on keyboards. Their debut, The Overload, was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2022, and their second, Where's My Utopia?, reached the UK Top 5 in 2024. This show will be a room gig, aimed at their existing followers and anyone into indie and alternative rock.
It's a busy year for them: they played European dates in June, a North American tour in August, and returned to Europe in October before these November shows. The Southampton date is on 24 November at the 02 Guildhall.
