Creative session for children under 5 featuring storytelling, songs, sensory activities, and arts and crafts.
Mini-Museum Explorers is back at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery on Friday 11 December, and this time it's taking a look at a Victorian Christmas. The session is called Charles Dickens presents: a Victorian Christmas celebration, and it's built for children under five, so you'll need to come along with them.

It's a creative hour rather than a sit-and-listen kind of thing. The session brings together storytelling, songs, sensory activities, and arts and crafts, all wrapped around that Victorian Christmas theme. It's designed for the under-fives to get stuck into, with the storytelling and songs running alongside the making and doing, so there's a bit of everything to keep small hands and short attention spans occupied.
If this sounds like your sort of morning, it's part of the wider Mini-Museum Explorers programme run by the Portsmouth Museum Service. They do these themed sessions every month across the city's different sites, so this one is just one stop in a regular run. The other venues they use are The D-Day Story, Portsmouth Natural History Museum, Southsea Castle, and Eastney Engine Houses, so if you miss this one, there's usually another one coming up soon at a different spot.
The session runs from 10.15am to 11.15am at Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, and it costs £3 per child, with free entry for anyone who has a leisure card. You'll need to book your place in advance by calling 023 9283 4779.
