A live musical show recreating the hits of the 1980s with a live band, promising to transport the audience to the dance floor of a club from that era.
Calling Planet Earth comes to Portsmouth Guildhall on Friday 11 September, a live show that recreates the music of the 1980s. They describe it as 'the show that defines a decade' and say it's meant to transport you back to the dancefloor of a club from the era. It's a full live band, with the songs played out with live arrangements and vocals rather than just tracks.

The setlist draws from the synth-pop and new wave that filled the airwaves back then. You'll hear tracks from Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Ultravox, Visage, Tears For Fears, ABC, Japan, Yazoo, Human League and Eurythmics. A few of the songs they've called out are 'Planet Earth', 'True', 'Tainted Love', 'Vienna' and 'The Look Of Love' — the kind of tunes that most people will recognise even if they weren't around to hear them the first time.
It's an all-ages show, though there is one rule to keep in mind: anyone under 14 has to be accompanied by an adult over 18. If you're planning to make a proper evening of it, there are hospitality and dinner packages available — a charcuterie board you can add to your booking up until 24 hours before the show, subject to availability. On the practical side, professional photography isn't allowed, and tablets and cameras are a no-go too. There's also discounted parking if you book it online or at the box office.
Doors open at 19:00, and tickets are £36.10, which includes a 17% booking fee.
